Modicum
Privacy policy
Modicum is an Android app that gives your social apps one shared daily time allowance. This page explains what it reads on your phone, why, and what happens to it. The short version: nothing leaves your phone.
Who makes it
Modicum is made by Harun Emre Doğan, who publishes as Hedaron. Questions about this policy go to hedaron23@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
- App usage. Which app is on screen and for how long, read from Android's usage statistics, so Modicum can count your time against the allowance.
- Your list of apps. The apps that can be opened from your launcher, so you can choose which ones share the allowance.
- Your settings. The allowance, the apps you chose, your bedtime hours and similar choices, plus a daily record of each day's allowance for the weekly review.
All of it is stored in the app's private storage on your phone. Modicum does not ask for the internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. There is no account, no server, no advertising, no analytics and no crash reporting service. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone.
Modicum's data is excluded from Android's cloud backup, so it is not copied to your Google account either.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Usage access, to know which app is in front and how long it has been used today.
- Display over other apps, to show the time left in a small pill around the camera, the pause that appears when you open a tracked app, and the pause screen when the day's time is used.
- Notifications and a foreground service, so the count keeps running while you use other apps. The notification shows the time left.
- Run at startup, to resume after the phone restarts or the app updates.
- Vibration, for the small haptic cues when time runs low.
Usage access and Display over other apps are granted in Android's settings, and you can turn either off there at any time. Modicum asks for each one only after explaining what it is for.
Deleting your data
Uninstall Modicum, or open Settings, Apps, Modicum, Storage and clear its data. Either removes everything the app stored. There is no copy anywhere else to delete.
Children
Modicum is meant for teenagers and adults managing their own time. It is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date. A change that sends any data off your phone would come with a notice in the app first.
